Salmon and Society in Scotland – by Dr Ronald Campbell

Perthshire man, Dr Ronald Campbell, is the Senior Biologist at The Tweed Foundation. This is an organisation which promotes environmental protection and improvement by conserving and enhancing all species of freshwater fish and their environments.

Ronald will be making a presentation about the history of salmon management in Scotland. Both salmon management and knowledge about the fish have deep roots, with legislation going back to the early 14th century. Salmon fisheries have always been important in Scotland and this is reflected in the seriousness of the disputes that it could trigger, from fights between clans to vicious pamphlet wars over the question of whether parr were the young of the salmon or not!
